Amateur Dramatics by Karen Hart The Wadham Players recent
performance of three one act plays was a great success. The
first short play was Playgoers a comedy by Arthur Wing Pinero
and directed by Elaine Elliot. Events do not go as planned and
cook and maids are left feeling patronised and unappreciated.
Eventually all resign, leaving only Stephen Jacob's genuinely
funny, doddering odd job man. Altogether an accomplished
performance.
The next play, directed by Keith Cummings, was Jean
McConnell's Shoppers. This offered us a glimpse of a day in the
lives of ladies-who-lunch Rosemary and Angela, played
respectively by Rose Floyd and Elaine Elliot. It is full of
barbed comments and witty one liners. This was a delight, with
both performers giving strong, polished performances - a comic
gem.
In the Brylcreem Boys by Peter Durrant and directed by
Michael Michael. The action here takes place in a RAF hospital
in 1944, where RAF sentry 'George' has been admitted for frost
bite - a part Lee Ocsko played to perfection.
This is a highly emotional play and the entire cast gave it
their all. Each performer managed to portray their character's
tenuous grasp on reality and was truly compelling.
This was ensemble performing of the highest calibre.
