Spotlight, Theatre Reviews by Phyl Romeril for Guardian
and Gazette Newspapers, January 14, 1993
A trip back in time.
It was back to the days of rationing,
blackouts, dried egg and clothing coupons for Wadham Players 40s
Show I'll be Seeing You.
They travelled along the road of
remembrance with songs, words and humour of wartime and post war
Britain.
Research had gone as far as costumes and
hair styles, all of which added to the atmosphere.
There were a number of newcomers in the
cast, for some it was the first time on stage.
Special items from ITMA, Butlin's first
Holiday Camp, a helping of Vera Lynn, poetry and funny sketches
added to this nostalgic anthology.
A few slips here and there had to be from a
company of young people, who probably had no first hand
knowledge of the styles of some of the characters portrayed.
The programme was complied and directed by
Michael and Elaine Elliott. Pam Hodges did a magnificent job at
the piano, Sally Elliott operated lights. John Hill
choreographed and Dave Housden was responsible for the settings.
