Wadham Players present a comedy by Keith Waterhouse and Willis
Hall. A wedding and a funeral, Joy and sorrow. It was supposed
to be Christine and Bernard's wedding, but, as with most
weddings, it seemed they were the last people to be considered
when it came to the arrangements. Rhoda and Edgar, the bride's
parents are arguing about the catering. Then there is Uncle
Frank, whose transport arrangements are starting to be
unravelled. What with Edna, Christine's mother, with her bad
back and upset stomach, Jack and his sarcastic remarksm and
Uncle Arthur more or less permanently drunk, the stage is set
for a lively evening. The funeral reception, six months later,
turns out to be just as lively, with a newly pregnant Christine,
and Stan and Irene just engaged. The the deceased's mistress May
turns up - to say nothing of a rather drunk army pal. Anyone who
has found themselves caught in either of those two great rituals
will recognise the truth, and many of the characters of Keith
Waterhouse and Willis Hall's warmly human comedy.
Performed 29 & 30 September and 1 October 1994 at Holy Trinity
Church Hall, Herman Hill, Wanstead
